This course is an introduction to the basics of crystallography, crystal physic, and diffraction. The crystallography part covers the concepts of lattice, crystal structure, symmetry, symmetry operation, point group, plane group, and space group. In the crystal physics part, tensor properties such as pyroelectricity, piezoelectricity, and elasticity will be discussed in relation to the crystal symmetry. At the end of course, the physics of diffraction will be briefly introduced and the principles of material analysis by X-ray diffraction will be provided.
