♦ INTRODUCTION
As naval architecture and ocean engineering is science of dealing comprehensively with design and construction of ships, ocean structures, and movement in the sea, it is an application science that requires knowledge of many fields of basic science. Naval architecture and ocean engineering is science that realizes all scientific and technical issues required for developing, designing, and constructing vessels and ocean structures that make human life abundant from the perspective of engineering and is an application science that requires knowledge of many field of basic science all together. At the same time, with the understanding of dynamic ocean environment in scientific way, it is also the field of creative and artistic science that comprises huge engineering system.

Education of this department is largely consisted of three stages of basic dynamics education course, basic naval architecture and ocean engineering education course, and professional naval architecture and ocean engineering education course. Basic dynamics play bridging role between basic science and application science and nurtures basic ability for learning new technology and academic research. Through education course of basic naval architecture and ocean engineering, we understand structure and design elements of ships and ocean structures and in education course of professional naval architecture and ocean engineering, we nurture ability to calculate and design by calculating specifically various issues in the field of naval architecture and ocean engineering and to analyze and evaluate the performance. As experiment facilities for education and research of this department, there are water tank for testing type of ships, equipment of testing structures, computer design room, equipment of testing vibration, equipment of testing welding dynamics, and ship building CAD.

The department has purpose of education to train the world-class manpower in the field of essential research, technology, and management of naval architecture and ocean industry that are required for making continuous development of Korean shipbuilding and ocean industry, which Korea is currently number one in the world. This department will continue to prepare for the 21st century in the future together with lots of talented students who want this world as the stage for their activities.
